It’s back to school time and things are starting to quiet down at your house. There were so many things you thought about doing during summer when you were busy with the kids, but now that you have the time you can’t seem to remember any of them! No worries, I got your back. On my show, Learning Local, we explore great places in our community that are share worthy. For my first episode we take a look at Westville Lake Recreational Area on Wallace Road. A place filled with activities galore where the fun never stops.
Westville Lake is situated on the Quinebaug River in the towns of Southbridge and Sturbridge, Massachusetts and is the perfect spot to picnic for the day. After an adventure pact day, you can choose from a group picnic shelter, a picnic cove, or a good old area on the grass. Throw down a blanket and pull out the snacks for a relaxing meal with a spectacular view.
Need to work up an appetite first? Well, Westville is a great place for that, as well. With a variety of hiking options, it’s impossible to get bored. You can hike them all in one day if you’re feeling adventurous, or hike a different one each time you come to keep it challenging and interesting. Nothing like working up a sweat on mother nature’s natural stair climber. Enjoy the last few months before the snow hits and experience all of the fresh air and beauty the great outdoors has to offer.
If you’re looking to stay seated, you can head on over to the kayak and canoe launch where you can enjoy paddling in the slow current river. It is hard not to enjoy the cooling breeze as you glide over the water. You can also grab a pole and take advantage of the fishing opportunities this area has to offer.
Now I know, this beautiful weather will be over before we know it and winter will hit and you may render this information useless, but the Westville Recreational Center can offer enjoyment during the winter season too! When the pond freezes over it makes a perfect area for ice skating! Throw on some skates and practice your hockey or figure skating tricks, or for some of us, just try not to fall. The hills in the park covered with snow also make for the perfect sledding experience. Pro tip: Pack a thermos of hot chocolate for when you’re finished to warm back up.
Next time you’re looking for something to do, head on over to Westville Lake Recreational Area! Don’t forget to subscribe to my videos and blog posts to stay up to date with the best places to go and things to do. Thanks for tuning in!
